My Name's Mike Brewer And I'm A Secret Anorak
April 10 | 09by:Mike Brewer
I got a secret! Don’t let everyone know but at the moment I reckon I’m the world’s biggest anorak. I have been secretly collecting, not stamps, not butterflies, not even poker-man cards, no I’ve been collecting Mazda MX5s... 10 of them to be precise! All of them are MK1s, all 20 years old and I’ve restored all of them to original spec!
Does this make me a ‘Bobble Hatter’? Probably. My neighbours think I’ve gone mad, my wife thinks I’ve blown the family savings and my daughter thinks dad's cool - which believe me is a worry!
But fear not, I have not been trawling the country to find these motors to get myself a mention in the Guinness Book of Records (but if they are reading this and think I’ve broken some kind of record then please do get in touch). No, I’ve been doing it for a job!
Later this year Mazda launch an updated version of the current MX5 and to celebrate the car's 20th anniversary they want the journalists attending the press launch to experience just how far the little convertible has come over the past 2 decades. I've been given the task of buying the original cars and I have fallen head over heels with all of them.
After the launch don’t be surprised if I keep one for myself but please look out for the others in the classifieds.
I'm sure we can come to some arrangement.

Mike,
I enjoy watching your Discovery Channel Programs. Having restored a 1960 MGA, 1974 MGB, and a 76 Triumph TR6. I often see on your program where the little things are over looked. On the MGBGT new refurbished wheels were installed using OLD RUSTY lug nuts. The lug nuts are cheap. I replaced them on my TR-6. I realize you are not doing a perfect restore. But so many little things are over looked. On the MGBGT you are also missing the center wheel inserts. Despite the items I mentioned, I enjoy your programs.
