How to Avoid Buying a Dodgy Car

June 24 | 09by:Danielle McCormick

A VIN number If you are not already totally disheartened by the amount of pitfalls of buying a second hand car, fear not - there are some proceedures in place which will hopefully stop them.

How to prevent bad stuff happening

While the registration plates can be easily changed, the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) cannot. All cars have to be assigned a unique VIN number when they are manufactured in the factory. They are typically made up of numbers and letters and are 17 digits long.

Finding your VIN

Look up “Vehicle Identification Number” or “chassis Number” in the owner’s manual of the car you are interested in. That should tell you where it is located. The VIN can be put in different places on different cars but here are a few common places to look. When you have found the VIN, give this to the History Check Company and they will be able to tell if it has been stolen.

VIN, is a unique serial number used by the automotive industry to identify individual motor vehicles. VINs were first used in 1954. From 1954 to 1981, there was no accepted standard for these numbers, so different manufacturers used different formats.

It is really important to know these kinds of things if your new to the car business or you just had your first car. It won't hurt to ask someone either.

Celex Technologies was incepted on 26th March 2003, with an objective of production of distribution of ‘High Security Registration Plate’(HSRP). The Company is based in West Bengal with presence all over India through its group Companies.

Thanks for this information. I think it is not only in cars that manufacturer put specific number for each product. But a buyer must know all this, as you've said, to prevent bad stuff.

I so love the sample car that was being presented in this blog. Well, it is really very important to be aware of the information about the car especially when you're new to it.

Well, thanks for this! This is a great insight. People saved money by buying second hand cars. This should be spread.
